Common Hindi Words and Phrases

This is a great place to start when learning to speak common Hindi words and phrases. While this list is currently pretty small, we are working hard to grow it in the future!

At the very least you can start by learning the Hindi translations for yes and no, then you'll learn some question words like who, what, when, where, why, and how, followed by a few other key phrases you might come across.

How to Say Yes and No in Hindi

Haan ➔ Yes

Nahin ➔ No


Hindi Words for Please and Thank You

Krpaya ➔ Please

Dhanyavaad ➔ Thank you (formal)

Shukriya ➔ Thank you (informal)

Bohaut dhanyavaad. ➔ Thank you very much.


Asking How Are You? in Hindi

Aap kaise hain? ➔ How are you?

Tum kaise ho? ➔ How are you?

Mai theek hu. ➔ I'm fine.

Main acchā hoon ➔ I'm fine


Exchanging Names in Hindi

Thumara naam kya hai? ➔ What is your name?

Mera naam (name) hai. ➔ My name is (name).
