Hello ➔ Kia ora


Hello ➔ Tēnā koe (to one person)

Hello ➔ Tēnā kōrua (to two people)

Hello ➔ Tēnā koutou (to three or more people)


Good morning ➔ Mōrena

Good evening / Good night ➔ Pōmārie


Welcome ➔ Nau mai

Welcome home. ➔ Nau mai ki te kainga.


English to Maori Farewells

Goodbye ➔ Kia ora

Goodbye ➔ Mauri ora

Goodbye ➔ Hei konei rā (said to a person staying)


Have a nice day. ➔ Kia pai to rā.

See you later. ➔ Mā te wā.

See you again. ➔ Ka kite anō.
