Bakabakashi's "Let's Practice Japanese" Thread!
« on: January 06, 2011, 03:16:48 PM »
You are all welcome to practice in this thread with me. Can't wait to see what we learn from each other, or from ourselves.

-------------------------------

I'm just going to start with some things that I know:

Ohayo / Good morning
Konnichiwa / Good afternoon
Konbanwa / Good evening
Oyasumi / Good night

-----------------------------------------------------
In the morning, saying hello:
Mika: Ohayo gozaimasu! / Good morning!
Goro: Ohayo. / Morning.

Later in the day, saying hello:
Goro: Yo, Mika! / Hey, Mika!
Mika: Konnichiwa! / Hello!

In the evening, saying hello (and goodbye and goodnight):
Mika: Goro-san! Konbanwa! / Goro-san! Good evening!
Goro: Ah... Mika-chan! Konbanwa. / Oh... Mika-chan! Good evening.
Mika: Ne!Ne! Sensei wa... nani ga atta no? / Hey!Hey! What happened with the teacher?
Goro: Betsu ni. / Nothing much.
Mika: Maa... Mata ashita, ne? / Well... see you tomorrow, okay?
Goro: Uhm, ashita. Ja. / Sure, tomorrow. Bye.
Mika: Oyasumi nasai. / Good night.
Goro: Oyasumi. / Night.

This is a great idea... I'll definitely be back to practice my Japanese here at some point. Just been wicked busy lately.

But I'm sure we can all learn a lot in a thread like this! Great idea :)

I was doing a lot of work with Yoroshiku onegai shimasu today...
Thought we might as well add it to the Japanese practice thread :D

Anyway, I wrote up a script, and then recorded and edited a video. Here's the details for it:

-------
The Japanese phrase "Yoroshiku onegai shimasu" can have various meanings depending on the situation in which it is being used. When it is said during a first meeting, it means something to the effect of "Let us have a nice relationship" or "Please treat me well". It can also be said when asking for a favor however, giving it a meaning more like, "Please", "Make it so", or "I'm leaving it up to you".

Now, the standard "Yoroshiku onegai shimasu" is the polite version of this phrase. To make this phrase more formal, a person can say, "Douzo yoroshiku onegai shimasu", and for a more informal situation, this phrase can be shortened to "Douzo yoroshiku". The least formal version of this phrase is just "Yoroshiku".

That's a cool video! I can't wait to see what else you come up with. You'll have to drop a link in the forum again once you make another video so I can check it out!
